One of the most popular instant messaging apps out there, WhatsApp is known for continually adding new features to the platform. These include changes to chat dynamics, new emojis and other fun features, and privacy additions. Thanks to WhatsApp Beta developments brought to us by WABetaInfo, We also have an idea of what to expect from future WhatsApp updates. Here are five upcoming WhatsApp features you should know about.
WhatsApp is working on a feature to block the ability to take screenshots and is currently in beta. The feature should be available to all stable users soon. This feature allows users to set up screenshot blockers and screen recording blocks for media files that once show settings shared with friends and other contacts. This prevents other users from taking a screenshot of your view-once media and improves privacy.
Clickable links to WhatsApp status
WhatsApp Status Updates, the app version of the popular “Stories” feature we find on most platforms these days, is getting a small but useful change that will allow linking of URLs on the caption in Status Updates. This would allow WhatsApp users to share URLs to their websites and pages and other interesting pages they find online, while allowing viewers to simply click on the links to open them.
WhatsApp Premium for Business
WhatsApp is also working on a WhatsApp Premium subscription model for WhatsApp Business users. Similar to services like Telegram Premium, WhatsApp Premium would offer additional benefits to business customers as long as they pay for the service. These features include custom store links and the ability to link more than four devices to a single account. We may even see more additions when the subscription goes live.
WhatsApp Business gets new business tool tab
WhatsApp Business users will also soon be getting a new tab on the app’s main page. Replacing the leftmost camera tab, the business tools tab becomes a central hub for business users where they can easily access business tools without going through the in-app settings. These tools include managing business profiles, catalog settings, and integrating with Facebook and Instagram via ads.
WhatsApp sidebar and status responses coming in on WhatsApp desktop
A new sidebar and status replies should be available soon for all WhatsApp desktop users on the platform. Status replies allow WhatsApp for desktop users to retrieve and reply to stories of their contacts, much like you might on a phone. Meanwhile, the sidebar allows for easy access to the Status Updates, Settings, and Profiles tab.
