AAP leader Gopal Italia under fire for calling Prime Minister ‘Neech’, NCW calls remarks ‘misogynistic’; AAP will likely hold PC soon

The president of the Gujarat branch of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Gopal Italia, came under fire on Sunday after the BJP beat him up for allegedly calling the prime minister “neech aadmi” and allegedly using swear words in his remarks.

Amit Malviya Sunday, head of the BJP’s IT cell, shared a video on Twitter of Italia PM calling Modi “neech aadmi”. Malvliya said using such profanity and abusing Gujarat’s pride and son of the soil was an insult to every Gujarati who had voted for him and the BJP for 27 years.

The video, allegedly from 2019, gem times nowdrew the ire of several BJP leaders.

The National Women’s Commission (NCW) said Sunday night it had taken note of the matter, calling the language used by Italy “gender-specific, misogynistic and reprehensible”. “The commission has scheduled a hearing on the matter, at which he is due to appear in person on 10/13/2022 at 12:30 p.m.,” they said.

According to sources, AAP is unlikely to take any action against Gopal Italia and the party’s Gujarat unit will hold a press conference soon.

The video comes at a time when both PM Modi and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal are visiting Gujarat, which is due to go to the polls later this year.

The state has been a stronghold of the BJP, which has governed it for 27 years, while the AAP is trying to position itself as the main opposition to the party in the upcoming election.
