Telugu Desam Party (TDP) National President N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday condemned police raids at a hotel in Visakhapatnam where party leader Jana Sena and actor Pawan Kalyan were staying.
The former Prime Minister told reporters that the raids reflect the dictatorial rule in Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu claimed that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government resorted to undemocratic methods. He said the government’s attempts to disrupt Jana Sena’s “Janavani” program were highly condemnable.
The TDP President also condemned the arrests of Jana Sena leaders for Saturday’s incident at Visakhapatnam Airport.
He criticized the actions of the police after the stones were thrown at the convoys of YSRCP leaders at the airport.
The incident happened on Saturday when Pawan Kalyan arrived at the airport while Minister of State RK Roja and some YSRCP leaders were returning from Visakhapatnam after attending a rally organized by the YSRCP in the city in support of three state capitals .
Naidu wondered how the police would decide whether a party’s leader should sit in the car or wave to supporters who came to welcome him.
The opposition leader said dozens of people had been arrested in connection with the airport incident. “Police are searching the hotel where Pawan Kalyan was staying and the threats all reflect the dictatorial rule in the state,” he said.
Naidu called for the immediate release of all Jana Sena leaders and workers arrested by the police.
