Chennaiyin FC are aiming to end their winless streak against Bengaluru FC

The Indian Super League finally returns to the south-east coast after two years and an exciting game is expected between Chennaiyin FC and Bengaluru FC.

Both sides come into this game having won their respective opening games and are aiming for full points to keep the momentum stable. After beating ATK Mohun Bagan for the first time in ISL, Chennaiyin FC became the third team to reach 50 wins in the league. They also became the third team to reach the 200 goal milestone.

In an opposing halves game against ATKMB, the Marina Machans were conservative in the first half. In the second half they tried to bolster their authority and continued to drill into the last third. Head coach Thomas Brdaric’s substitutions played a key role in his team’s triumph. Brdaric decided to bring in Kwame Karikari just before the hour mark. It took the Ghanaian just three minutes to win a penalty.

Karikari equalized from the penalty spot before setting up Rahim Ali for the winner with a superb low cross in the 83rd minute. Chennaiyin FC head coach said fitness plays a key role. Bengaluru FC are just one win away from reaching the 50 wins milestone themselves. The Blues are unbeaten in their last six games against the Marina Machans. However, the guests won only one of five games in the Marina Arena. Last season, Bengaluru FC scored 32 goals in the league.

19 of the 32 goals were scored from set pieces. The Blues started the new season in a similar way when they scored the winning goal against NEUFC from a corner. Alan Costa scored his third goal as he announced the winner against NEUFC. All three of his goals in the came from corner kicks.

The Marina Machans and the Blues have faced each other 11 times at Hero ISL. Bengaluru FC has won six games while Chennaiyin FC has won three. Two games ended in a draw.
