Mandavi, 58, was taken to a hospital in the neighboring town of Dhamtari after suffering a heart attack, where he died in the morning

Manoj Singh Mandavi, deputy speaker of the Chhattisgarh Assembly and ruling MLA of Congress, died on Sunday of complications from a heart attack, party leaders said. Mandavi, 58, was taken to a hospital in the neighboring city of Dhamtari after suffering a heart attack, from which he died in the morning, said Sushil Anand Shukla, head of the communications wing of the State Congress.

Mandavi, representing Bhanupratappur constituency in Kanker district, was at his home village of Nathia Nawagaon in Charama district on Saturday night. After complaining of being unwell, he was taken to a hospital in Charama where doctors treated him, Shukla said. Mandavi was then transferred to a hospital in the neighboring town of Dhamtari, where he died, the congress leader said.

A three-time MLA and a prominent tribal face of the party in the Bastar region, Mandavi was Minister of State for Homes and Prisons during the state’s Ajit Jogi-led Congress government between 2000 and 2003.
