Just 21-year-old Darshan Gaonkar became Maharashtra’s hero when he scored the bronze medal-winning goal against Haryana on penalties at the 2022 National Games.
With the score 2-2 and Maharashtra going with a take, Gaonkar started his run from the mark with the ball controlled on his blade, running towards the goalie and smacking him for a win over him. Here, check it out.

Before that, the two teams played a 2-2 draw over the four quarters. While Maharashtra was caught off guard by Uttar Pradesh in the semi-final match, Haryana lost to Karnataka in the gold medal battle.
After the game, Maharashtra has maintained its second place in the medals tally with 38 golds and 137 golds overall, more than any other state. Haryana is third with 34 gold and 105 overall.
