Doctor G Box Office Day 3: Ayushmann Khurrana movie shows promise, here’s how much it shaped

Doctor G, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Shefali Shah and Rakul Preet, does decently at the box office after a rather disappointing opening. After earning Rs 3.87 crore on the first day, the film saw a jump of 20-30 per cent to Rs 5.22 crore on Saturday, now it is expected to have earned Rs 5.50 crore on the third day, so early estimates, says Sacnilk. The total collection is expected to be Rs 14.59 crore.

While the film garnered little attention and didn’t rely on heavy or aggressive publicity, it appears to be working mostly on word of mouth, despite rather mixed reviews. This might come as some relief to Ayushmann Khurrana, whose recent films have not had the same success rate as his earlier ones. Ayushmann’s previous release Anek didn’t do much at the box office. While Anek had earned just Rs 1.77 crore on his first day, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui opened at Rs 3.75 crore.

The new figures come as a consolation for the Bollywood industry as the year was marked by several high-budget flops including Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and three of Akshay Kumar’s films. The bright spots for the industry were Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Files. Doctor G didn’t face much competition from Saif Ali Khan and Vikram Vedha of Hrithik Roshan, still making valiant efforts in his third week. Meanwhile, the films from the south – Ponniyin Selvan and the latest Kannada film Kantara, which has just been released in the Hindi version – continue to do well at the box office.
