Eknath Shinde faction was assigned “Shield and Sword” as the electoral symbol by the Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission on Tuesday assigned the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde the ‘shield and sword’ electoral symbol, a day after the electoral body asked the camp to submit new symbols.

The Shinde faction emailed new symbols to the Electoral Commission earlier in the day. Among the symbols were a conch shell, an auto rickshaw, a man blowing a trumpet, the sun, a shield and sword, and a proscenium tree.

On Monday, the EC announced that the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction will use the name “Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena” (Balasaheb’s Shiv Sena), while the Uddhav Thackeray-led camp will change to “Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray “ will call poll. The Uddhav faction received a “flaming torch” (Mashaal) as its poll icon.
