Europa League: Arsenal win as Scott McTominay saves Manchester United

Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the Europa League as Bukayo Saka’s goal led to a 1-0 win at Bodo/Glimt while Manchester United left late to beat Omonia Nicosia. Saka scored midway through the first half in Norway to give the Gunners their third win in as many games in Group A over Mikel Arteta over BT Sport. “We expected a really tough night here and we made a lot of changes again but I’m happy to have found a way to win.”

Arsenal are two points ahead of PSV Eindhoven, who beat FC Zurich 5-0. Bodo/Glimt have four points from four games.

Scott McTominay spared United with a goal in the 93rd minute in their 1-0 win over Cypriots Omonia at Old Trafford.

Omonia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho made a series of great saves to frustrate a wasteful United before the Scotland midfielder fired home in added time.

“Sometimes you have to be patient. Their goalkeeper was a different class but we created enough chances and in the end we deservedly scored,” McTominay told BT Sport.

“It’s a huge goal because we have to win the group.”

Erik ten Hag’s side stayed three points behind Group E leaders Real Sociedad, who defeated ten-man Sheriff Tiraspol 3-0 to celebrate their fourth straight win.

La Real’s rise is guaranteed. They host United on November 3 in a clash that will likely decide which team goes straight into the last 16.

Each of the eight group runners-up will face a team falling behind from the Champions League in a knockout round play-off in February.
