Fakhar Zaman has been added to Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup

After initially being added to the reserve squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, Fakhar Zaman was included in Pakistan’s 15-man squad. The southpaw replaces leg spinner Usman Qadir, who has been placed on travel reserve.

The news comes as Qadir suffered a hairline fracture to his right thumb during the T20I series between Pakistan and England. Zaman, on the other hand, was dropped from the World Cup squad due to a knee injury.

Speaking to DawnNews a few days ago, PCB CEO Ramiz Raja had said, “He (Zaman) is in the rehab process,” he said. “I think if he gets fit he has a lot of value, there’s no doubt about that. The call is answered by the team as they view their combination. Unfortunately, Usman Qadir has a hairline crack in his finger. So it remains to be seen what other options the team can choose from.”

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board, “Fakhar (Zaman) will join Shaheen Shah Afridi from London in Brisbane on Saturday and will be available for selection in the two warm-up games against England (17 October) and Afghanistan (19 October), during which the management judges the fitness of the left-handed batsman.”

Pakistan T20 World Cup Squad: Babar Azam (Captain), Shadab Khan (Vice-Captain), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood.
