Former Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam is being summoned by police to join an investigation into the conversion row in Delhi

Delhi police on Tuesday arrived at the residence of AAP leader Rajendra Pal Gautam in Civil Lines, Delhi, with a subpoena, asking him to join an investigation related to a dispute over a religious conversion event.

Gautam, who recently resigned from the Delhi cabinet following a controversy over his position as Social Welfare Minister, was asked to appear at Paharganj Police Station at 2pm today.

The announcement came as police received several written complaints related to the program in Ambedkar Bhawan Delhi on October 5. Police said in the statement that certain words were uttered publicly, which has infuriated the general public.

GAUTAM RESIGNS AFTER CONTROVERSY

Gautam resigned from his post on Sunday after controversy erupted over his presence at the religious conversion event.

The BJP had used the issue to attack Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal during the Gujarat election campaign, accusing him of being “anti-Hindu”.

In a letter shared on Twitter, Gautam said he attended the event as a private individual and it had nothing to do with his party or the ministry. He lashed out at the BJP for targeting Kejriwal and AAP, claiming the Saffron Party was engaging in “dirty politics” on the issue.

Gautam, who was Minister for Social Welfare, SC and ST, Chancellor for Cooperatives and Gurudwara Elections, said he was resigning as Minister as he did not want his leader or AAP to get in trouble because of him.
