Aizawl, July 9, 2022 : Health Minister Dr R. Lalthangliana today visited Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) and Guwahati Neurological Research Center (GNRC) in Guwahati.

The Minister was welcomed by BBCI Director Dr AC Katatki, Heads of Departments and faculty members. R.Lalthangliana said that BBCI officials are useful to Mizoram and thanked them for treating cancer patients from Mizoram.

He requested the government to provide short term training for Mizoram doctors and to help them in the establishment of Cancer Superspeciality Hospital in Mizoram.

BBCI officials said that they are committed to providing training to as many Mizo doctors as possible in ‘Cancer Care and Management’ The Minister was informed that the meeting was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Dr R. Lalthangliana also launched the BBCI bi-yearly Journal.

The Minister was welcomed by Managing Director, Dr. Nomal Chandra Borah and Senior Doctors of GNRC Hospital. Dr R. Lalthangliana said that Mizoram has a shortage of neurology experts and Mizoram needs the assistance of GNRC experts. GNRC officials said that they are willing to provide short term training to Mizoram doctors free of charge as per the Minister’s request. The Minister was also informed that the hospital will provide interpreters for the Mizo people who need assistance.

After visiting the two hospitals, Dr R. Lalthangliana chaired a meeting of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA), North-East Region Executive Committee at Mizoram House, Guwahati. A Task Force was formed to ensure that YMCAs are established in areas where YMCAs have not yet been established.

Dr R. Lalthangliana was accompanied by Health & Family Welfare Board Vice-Chairman Dr ZR Thiamsanga, MLA and Deputy Resident Commissioner, Mizoram House, Guwahati Dr Malsawmtluanga Fanchun.
