Hindu Sena moves Delhi HC against Adipurush maker, actor

An organization called Hindu Sena sued the Delhi High Court on Wednesday against the creators and actors of Adipurush. The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeks the removal of allegedly “objectionable content” related to Lord Ram, Sita, Hanuman, Ravana and others. The plea was introduced by Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta. The plea went on to say that the film hurt the feelings of the Hindu community by portraying religious figures in an inappropriate and inaccurate manner.

The pleading said the Hindu Sena lodged a complaint with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, but received no response. It claimed that the film’s portrayal of religious characters like Ravana, played by Saif Ali Khan and Lord Hanuman, was completely detached from Indian civilization.

The bearded appearance of Ravana’s character, played by Saif Ali Khan in the film, has been criticized. The PIL claimed that the scene referring to Ravana in the film is an absolute distortion of the true facts and history of Ramayana.

Om Raut, director of the feature film Adipurush, had defended the film in recent interviews against allegations of inaccurate portrayals of religious leaders or characters in the film. He had said in a statement that even Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana has its own version of VFX in its portrayal of the religious leaders or characters of Ramayan, the pleading said.

The plea calls for the removal of the parts.
