IND vs. SA: Boys showed great character on hard hitting lanes, says Shikhar Dhawan

India’s ODI deputy captain Shikhar Dhawan is pleased his side showed character on difficult pitches in the three-game series against South Africa.

After losing the first game in Lucknow, India secured the series with two lopsided victories over the Proteas.

“The boys showed great character on such a tough pitch. The bowlers were clinical today,” Dhawan said after the match.

“I’m proud of the boys for how they played on the show. The way they have taken responsibility and shown maturity. I would like to say thank you to the support staff.”

The first game in Lucknow was a game to remember for the ‘Men in Blue’, mostly because of the many catches they missed.

“We showed a lot of character in the first game, we dropped a few catches but we never really pushed ourselves. We tried to stick to the schedule. I’m enjoying the journey and will try to continue to perform well for my team.”

India’s ‘Player of the Series’ Mohammed Siraj was pleased with his consistent performance across all three games.

“Playing against a good team gives you a lot of confidence. I had to take responsibility. I’m trying to figure out the right pitches early in the innings. As a fast bowler, you need that fire and passion in you. I’m satisfied with my performance and happy about this award as Player of the Series.”

For Kuldeep Yadav, sticking with the process has helped him reap rewards, just like his 4/18 last game.

“I don’t think too much about the result, just focus on the process and focus on my rhythm. I try to bowl in good areas. I don’t think too much, my next goal is to do well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament.”

David Miller, South Africa’s captain of the game, admitted 99 goals had practically sealed their fate. “It was very tough. Didn’t help just getting 99.

Disappointing result today to end the series like this. There was a bit of a spin and it was two pace, it was sticky because it was under a blanket from the rain.” Miller didn’t think the team was doing too badly.

“We were really good in certain areas, we got along well. We just need to extend the good times when it comes to ODIs.”
