Defending champions Hyderabad FC opened their account in the ongoing ISL with an impressive 3-0 win over NorthEast United FC in Guwahati on Thursday. The visitors dominated the game and there was constant one-way traffic at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, which demoralized the hosts. Bartholomew Ogbeche opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Player of the Match Halicharan Narzary doubled the lead in the 69th minute and substitute Borja Herrera’s goal in the 73rd minute saw the game end.
A goal down, NEUFC started well after the break but it was HFC who clawed out a penalty five minutes into the second half. However, Arindam Bhattacharja made a brilliant save from the NEUFC post to keep his side in the game.
However, HFC soon managed to overtake Bhattacharja thanks to a defensive error.
HFC took the lead when Ogbeche blocked a fine cross from Mohammad Yasir at the far post before hitting the net.
In the 53rd minute, HF was awarded a penalty. Ogbeche shot to the left of the goalkeeper, but Bhattacharja guessed correctly.
NEUFC had a golden opportunity to equalize in the 61st minute, but Matt Derbyshire’s header from a cross went wide.
Halicharan scored HFC’s second goal after a massive defensive error by the home side.
Substitute Borja was immediately present and scored the 3-0 for the HFC with a great performance.
The HFC was the better of the two teams. NEUFC played well but wasn’t consistent enough to test the opposing goalkeeper and suffered their second consecutive loss of the season.
This was NEUFC’s first home game of the season but they didn’t capitalize on the familiar backdrop.
HFC drew their opening match against Mumbai City FC.
