Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A chaired a meeting today to discuss the malaria situation in Lunglei District.
Lunglei District Malaria Officer Dr Lalrinthangi, Zonal Entomologist Dr Zahid Ali Khan and other officials were present at the meeting.
Lunglei District Task Force on Malaria Elimination Chairman Pu Kulothungan A said that malaria is increasing in the country. Lunglei District-a western belt Lungsen, Tlabung and surrounding areas are malaria hotspots.
National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP), Lunglei District has promoted awareness programme, leaflet distribution, thosilen distribution, source reduction and mass testing during the malaria season Lunglei DC said that the scheme will be implemented further.
Contractors working on development works in Lunglei District – road construction, electricity line construction etc. are also requested to use thosilen for their subordinates. Dr Lalrinthangi said that NVBDCP, Lunglei District can provide free bed net impregnation to these thosilen.
In May 2022, 228 malaria cases (Malaria Pv-33 and Malaria Pf-195) were detected in Lunglei District.
Lunglei District Malaria Officer Dr Lalrinthangi and her colleagues today convened 197 ASHAs in Lunglei District at Synod Conference Centre, Salem Vengah. These ASHAs are requested to monitor their respective areas carefully after receiving medicines and blood testing equipment before the start of the rainy season.
