Man United player Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, control and coercion and assault, Crown prosecutors said on Saturday.

Greenwood, 21, is due to appear in court on Monday and face three charges against the same woman.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Greenwood, said Janet Potter, assistant chief prosecutor for the CPS North West.

“Specialist rape prosecutors from CPS North West’s complex casework unit approved the charges after reviewing an evidence file obtained from Greater Manchester Police.”

Greenwood was first arrested in January on charges related to a young woman after pictures and videos were posted online. He’s been out on bail ever since. He was suspended by United and has not played for the club since January.
