Manish Sureshkumar and Vaidehi Chaudhari claimed the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship on Sunday.
At the DLTA complex, where the cool weather provided the right ambience for participants to play some good tennis, both Vaidehi and Manish played solidly to win their finals. Vaidehi overtook Sai Samhitha Chamarthi 6-2, 6-0. It was disappointing for Sai Samhitha as she has been in good touch for the past week. The essence of a final is raising the level of play, which Vaidehi did with finesse.
Vaidehi has been playing tennis since he was nine and is waiting for the right breaks. Winning the Fenesta Open is a huge boost to her career as she has twirled around in ITF events to make it big. “This is my first title at the Fenesta Open and I’m very happy,” she said.
Most players who endured the rigors of the first national tournament fared well. The same could be true for Vaidehi as she is still at a stage where she can improve her game and get better as a pro on the circuit.
In the men’s final, Manish Sureshkumar played with purpose as he dismantled Digvijay Pratap Singh’s challenge 6-2, 6-3. In the boys’ U18 final, Denim Yadav showed panache and daring as he defeated Aman Dahiya 7-6 (7/2), 6-4 to win the title. Denim had a tough time in the first set. In the tiebreak, denim was stronger at the big points and pulled out of the set. Denim showed its best side in the second set as well.
In the girls’ U18 final, runner-up Madhurima Sawant bounced to her feet as she edged past Suhitha Maruri 6-3, 6-2.
“I am very happy about winning the title. I enjoyed the match and am really happy to be the national champion now. I thank Fenesta Open for the opportunity,” said Madhurima.
