Meghan Markle recalls how Prince Harry helped her out of her ‘gloomy state’, Deepika Padukone says late-night chats with Ranveer Singh ‘fill her up’

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex recently hosted actress Deepika Padukone on her podcast Archetypes, where the two women spoke about their mental health journey. As Deepika told how she sought help, meghan recalled how she first came into contact with a psychiatrist and how Prince Harry had been the instrument in making that decision.

Meghan shared that it was Harry who found the professional through a recommendation and when Meghan called her she wasn’t expecting her call. Recalling this phase in her life as her “worst point”, Meghan said: “I think at my worst point, in finally connecting with someone you know, my husband had found a referral to call . I called this woman. She didn’t even know I was calling her. And she checked out at the grocery store.”

Meghan, who was still living in the UK with the royal family at the time, said she introduced herself and the woman on the other hand sounded a little confused but could see the “gloomy state” she was in. “I said hi, introduce myself. And like, you’ll literally be waiting… sorry… I’m just… who is that? and said I need help and she could hear the bad condition I was in,” she said. Meghan added, “I think it’s up to all of us to be really honest about what you need and not be afraid to make peace with it to ask for it.”

Deepika mentioned that for her it was the little things that counted in her ongoing mental health journey. “It’s all about the little things like hugging my sister or late night chats with my husband. Those are the moments that really fulfill me today,” she shared.

At the beginning of the episode, Meghan also spoke to Crazy Rich Asians actress Constance Wu, and here she spoke about how it felt liberating to watch her children express their feelings and she would want to do the same, but always still has a “different kind of serenity”. She said: “I’d love to cry that much, but I’m conditioned to still have a different kind of composure, and now you’re kind of going … oh, just relax and let it out.” I see the same thing in my kids that you’re talking about in yours, or I’m like, oh my god, I want to do that. I want to feel so deep.” Meghan continued, “It’s like an Adele album, just like so many intense emotions, and you just pull it out and share it.”

Previously, Meghan opened up about her mental health journey in a conversation with Oprah Winfrey in 2021. At the time, Meghan revealed that she had suicidal thoughts during her first pregnancy. “I share that because there are so many people who are afraid to say they need help. And I know how hard it is not just to say it, but to say it and be told no,” she had said.
