Team India meets Australia in their first training match of the T20 World Cup at the Gabba in Brisbane. After Jasprit Bumrah was sidelined with a back problem, India’s Cricket Board of Control appointed Mohammed Shami to the squad to replace Star Pacer. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, on the other hand, have been placed on the reserve list. Shami, who joined the Indian team ahead of the first warm-up game, was spotted bowling in the nets. He even cleaned up Dinesh Karthik, who looked good in the nets in Brisbane.
Shami, who hasn’t played many white ball games since last year’s T20 World Cup, will look to get back on track before India kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan next Sunday in Melbourne.
Shami was due to play Australia and South Africa at home in the six T20Is but has tested positive for CIVID-19 and has had to remain isolated. On return, he had to prove his fitness before the NCA approved his trip to Australia.
India have already played two training games since arriving Down Under, both against Western Australia.
They won the first game and lost the second.
