Harshal Patel has only gotten stronger over the past few years. With consistent performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the 31-year-old has become a fixture on the Indian T20I team. With the 2022 T20 World Championship looming and Jasprit Bumrah out through injury, all eyes will be on Harshal. He is known as a bowler who can consistently bowl the slower ball to fox the batters. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Harshal revealed different facets of bowling a slower delivery and how he would use it differently against Virat Kohli.
“For Virat, sure, because he’s not one that’s going to make you muscular. Those slower deliveries are more effective when people are trying to bulk you up. For someone like Virat, he steps out and whenever I’ve played him he makes it a full throw and plays it through the midwicket,” Harshal said.
“If he’s got a good racquet on the ball, he’s going to get a line between long-on and midwicket, or he’s going to get a double. And when someone plays this delivery like that, you have to adapt. But if someone is going deep in the crease and is just trying to hit you over a long or deep midwicket or the ground, the slower ball becomes much more effective.
Harshal is part of India’s Mamin squad for the T20 World Cup. India will launch its campaign against Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne.
