There is arguably no cricket competition that can match the hype of a match between India and Pakistan. Similar to the 2021 T20 World Cup, India and Pakistan will launch their respective campaigns in the 2022 edition of the tournament in Australia. While much has been said and written about the Indo-Pak clash ahead of the October 23 showdown, the players’ perspective on the game remains a little different. Yuzvendra Chahal, currently one of the top spinners in the game, has stressed the importance of not overthinking this competition.

In an interview with Dainik Jagran, Chahal was asked about the anticipation of the game against Pakistan. The wrist spinner said it was like any other game for the players.

“If you’ve played against a particular opponent before, don’t worry too much about facing them again. However, ahead of the clash against Pakistan, a lot of hype is generated by media and internet. But for us cricketers it’s fair like another game and when we think there’s too much pressure building up,” Chahal replied.

“I’m pretty active on the internet, but I don’t let what’s written bother me. Pakistan are a good team but the focus remains solely on our performance matchday, everything depends on that,” he added, addressing the hype surrounding the game on social media.

When asked what he thought of the Pakistan team, the 32-year-old said: “Pakistan’s team is good too, but our main focus remains on our performance. Most importantly, it all depends on how you play on the day the game is held.”

Chahal is the only hand flatterer in India’s 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup. His skills, therefore, almost guarantee a place in the starting XI against Pakistan.
