Ahead of Gujarat’s general election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Sunday the people of the state had blessed him and voted for him regardless of his caste for the past two decades.
The Prime Minister arrived in Gujarat for a three-day visit, where he declared Modhera in Mehsana district to be the country’s first 24×7 solar village.
Speaking at a rally in Modhera, Modi said, “The people of Gujarat have blessed me for the past two decades without regard to my caste, without regard to my political background.”
Before becoming Prime Minister, Modi was Prime Minister of Gujarat between 2001 and 2014. Parliamentary elections are due to be held in Gujarat shortly.
The elections are crucial for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which aims to retain power in PM Modi’s home state as Congress hopes for victory after being out of power for 27 years.
During his visit, Modi will launch various projects worth more than Rs 14,600 crore.
