Actress Radhika Apte, who has been married for a decade, believes the key to making a relationship work is to give it total independence. Radhika is married to British musician Benedict Taylor. They were both in a long-distance marriage from 2012 to 2020 when the pandemic hit.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Radhika, who now mainly lives in London and was recently in India to promote her latest Vikram Vedha, opened up about her marriage, saying “long-distance relationships are really difficult,” but a couple can find one Ability to make it work with love and when they are on the same page.
“I was in a long distance marriage until COVID happened. Now we spend so much time together, it’s the second chapter of marriage! At first it was so sad to be gone, it was really heartbreaking. Now I’m thinking again, ‘Oh my god, I won’t be able to see him for a while’, this really hurts me. But we’re trying to spend more time now,” she said.
The actress said what she learned from successful relationships is that you should be comfortable with who you are, and only by truly accepting yourself can you accept your partner.
“Long-distance relationships are really tough. But if you want to make it work, you can make it work. We got it working; I do not know how. We wanted the same thing, loved each other’s company. Giving each other freedom is the most important thing. And give yourself the freedom to change, to think differently, to want whatever you want. Accepting yourself for who you are and then accepting the other person. It’s something I’ve learned about every successful relationship,” she added.
On the labor front, Radhika’s latest feature film Vikram Vedha was released on September 30th. The film, titled Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan, featured her as a lawyer. When asked during the interview what she loves about Hrithik, Radhika said, “His dedication to fitness.”
Vikram Vedha, a remake of the 2017 Tamil action film of the same name, was directed by Pushkar-Gaythri, who also directed the original. The film starred R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. The Hindi remake has Saif reprising Madhavan’s role while Hrithik reprises Vijay’s role.
