“Sanju Samson: Chapter 2.0 is going to be really good,” says R. Ashwin

Senior Indian spinner R Ashwin has slammed his skipper Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals after the wicketkeeper’s batter’s superb performance in the ODI series against South Africa.

“I think that would have given him enormous confidence. Sanju is a fantastic player and a very good person. His personality is such that he has a very calm demeanor. And of course he is an exceptional talent. Everyone knows that,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Sanju Samson netted 118 runs and went unbeaten in all three innings of the ODI series against South Africa.

At the first ODI in Lucknow, Sanju scored an unbeaten 86 points and almost took India home with him. India lost the match by nine runs.

“He almost took the game to the point where he could have made it. Sanju Samson: Chapter 2.0, it’s going to be really good from here,” Ashwin said.

Sanju enjoys the role of finisher

Before series decider against South Africa, Samson, he was the finisher for Team India Management.

“Absolutely, I’ve practiced different roles over the past few years. See, I’m part of different teams and I have to prepare for the roles I have to fit into the roster. It’s a challenge but I enjoy it. See, I got this final role on the team for the last year,” he said.

“I was informed beforehand. Physically, I’ve worked a lot on my top-notch batting power. But mentally I’m ready to react to different situations. I learned from the people who used to do it. I’m also learning from history and how people have done it beautifully before. So a lot was learned and I’m enjoying this role.”

“After the first game we had a positive meeting. We didn’t have the game we wanted, but the team management, the coach and the captain made it clear to us how special we are and how important it is to keep the process going. That was the talk at the meeting and everyone was following it,” he added.
