Appreciated for its tight storyline and good performances, the film has easily surpassed Rs 50 billion in 5 days and is slowly approaching Rs 75 billion at the box office. The film, which was released on October 21, left Sivakarthikeyan’s prince behind.
Not only in Tamil Nadu, but also in the Telugu-speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Karthi’s Sardar has found great popularity. The film has reportedly become a profitable venture for distributors as it broke even on the sixth day of its release.

Indian Express gave the film a 3.5 star rating and wrote, “One of the significant differences between PS Mithran’s film and the generic affairs is that the director treats the genre and audience with respect.”
After the huge success of Sardar, the creators announced a sequel to the film at the recent success meeting. Starring Laila, Rashi Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan and Chunky Pandey, Sardar is a dual-role spy thriller starring Karthi. The actor also said he was relieved after the film’s success. Karthi said: “People have asked me if I’m happy now that the film has been a hit. I reply that I am peaceful and relieved.”
