Shailesh Lodha promises to reveal real reason for leaving Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah: “Kuch toh Majbooriyan Rahi Hongi…”

When Shailesh Lodha left Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah earlier this year, fans of the show were shocked. Lodha played the title role in the longest-running television show on Indian television, but the reason why he quit the show was never explicitly stated. That was implied lodha wasn’t happy with that exclusive contract that he had to sign with the show’s creators and didn’t give him time to pursue other opportunities.

In a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan, Shailesh spoke about his 14+ year work on the show and said he was “close to it”. Speaking in Hindi, he said, “We Indians are emotional people, so we’re attached to everything, there’s no doubt about that.” Shailesh continued, “I’m an emotional person. In fact, I consider myself an emotional idiot. I’m a sentimental fool. Bonding is natural. And if you do something for 14 years, it will happen.”

When asked his reason for quitting, Shailesh recited a ‘her’ by Bashir Badr. “Kuch toh majbooriyan rahi hongi, yun hi koi bevafa nahi hota” which loosely translates as “There has to be a reason, people don’t leave without a reason.” Shailesh added, “It’s not like I won’t reveal why I left the show. I will say, but only at the right time.”

At the time Shailesh left the show, a source told indianexpress.com, “Shailesh feels his character has been lost in the ensemble. While he was giving his dates, there isn’t much for him to do. Now that the pandemic is over his kavi collecting lanks have started again and he is quite busy. He recently told the production house that he doesn’t want to continue. Shailesh is no longer coming to the shoots and is sticking to his business.”

The creators of TMKOC brought in Scahin Shroff to replace Shailesh Lodha. Shailesh bagged a Hindi poetry show called Wah Bhai Wah after leaving the Sony SAB show.
