Aizawl, June 20, 2022: State Working Committee on Drugs and Crime (SWDC) Chairman Dr K Beichhua, Excise Minister chaired its first meeting today at SAD Conference Hall, MINECO.
Dr K.Beichhua said that Mizoram is a country where drugs are rampant. He said that the disease cannot be cured all at once, but reducing the prevalence is the first priority. He said that the government will do its utmost to fight the Working Committee.
According to the National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use in India (2019), 7.8 per cent of people aged 10 to 75 in Mizoram drink alcohol. then the ngawl is sick. 3.24% smoked ganja, of whom 0.29% smoked marijuana. Opiods users accounted for 25.67% of the population, of whom 3.26% were addicted. There are 28,288 injecting drug users in Mizoram, the survey said.
The meeting also resolved to form Working Committees at State level and District level. The District Working Committee on Drugs and Crime should be chaired by DCs and members should be representatives of relevant departments and NGOs. Village Level Task Force should be established in each village and veng. Local Council, church, NGO and veng/khaw tinte members should be appointed as required. These members should elect their Chairman and other leaders.
The meeting also appointed a committee to prepare an action plan & guidelines for the Task Force. The committee will include representatives of Excise Department, police, health, Social Welfare and Central YMA. The meeting also reviewed the budget requirements for State Working Committee to Village Level Task Force. Budget of cheng vaibelchhe 7 was approved.
