Suryakumar Yadav, currently arguably the best T20 batsman on the Indian cricket team, was in top form again as Rohit Sharma’s men took on Western Australia in a training match at WACA. The Indian team is preparing for the T20 World Cup and will compete in a number of practice matches including one each against Australia and New Zealand before the flagship event begins. On Monday, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s feat with the bat that inspired India to victory.

At the top it was Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant who opened the innings for India with 3 and 9 goals respectively. After their early exit, Deepak Hooda showed a few good hits, hitting 22 14-ball runs before failing to convert his start into a big score.

Suryakumar Yadav then took control of India’s innings himself, hitting 52 runs from 35 balls while Hardik Pandya also kept him in good company (27 runs from 20 balls). Although the match was not broadcast on any TV network or streaming platform, a fragment of video of Surya’s punch has surfaced, showing the type of shots he met during his stint in the crease.

Here is the video:

After the departure of Suryakumar and Hardik, Dinesh Karthik had an unbeaten 19-of-23 ball run, while Axar Patel (10-of-5) and Harshal Patel (5-of-4) also contributed to the 158-run total.

India defended the total, limiting Western Australia to 145 runs, securing a 13-run win. Yuzvendra Chahal (2 for 15) and Bhunvheshwar Kumar (2 for 26) were the bowler picks for the Indian team.

Team India reached Australia a few days ago after claiming victories over Australia and South Africa in their respective T20I series. The goal at the moment remains to adapt quickly to the conditions in Australia and to be in top form for the T20 World Cup.
